I looked around the forum to see information about this but couldn't find any...
so I was wondering: Is there anyone here living in Bacolod?
The award was accepted by Percenita Sanchez of Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation.
Below is her acceptance speech: Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.
Stop the Killings is an alliance of Belgian trade unions, cause-oriented groups and non-government organizations working on the platform of upholding international solidarity for the defense of human rights.
Stop the Killings cited the Lumad’s ongoing struggle in Mindanao against international mining corporations and agribusiness plantations in the region as the reason for granting the award.
The Lumad were nominated by Solidagro and two other Belgian NGOs, Third World Health Aid and which have also been working with several partner organizations in the Philippines.
The award, according to Solidagro, is a tribute to Emerito Samarca, executive director of ALCADEV (Alternative Learning Center for Agricultural and Livelihood Development), who was killed in September with two lumad leaders, Dionel Campos and Bello Sinzo.
Solidagro supports the food security program of ALCADEV in several lumad communities.
